ABOUT ME

My name is Jaquelina Guardamagna and I am the Head of Translator in London.

After my graduation in 1999 with a BA Degree in English-Spanish Translation from the National University of Cordoba, I was awarded a scholarship by the University of Westminster in the UK.

In the year 2000 I left Argentina to study International Relations, Cross-cultural Communications, Academic English and English-Spanish Translation in London. When my University course was over,

I backpacked around Europe for two months and then returned to Argentina to finish a BA course in Language Teaching.

While studying at University I worked as a Manager of an International Language School, as an English Teacher for Journalists of the local Newspaper:'La Voz del Interior', and as a Lecturer Assistant for 'Introduction to Interpreting' at the UNC.

In 2004 I moved back to the UK. Driven by my passion for languages and translation, I studied 'Translation for Media' at City University; German at Westminster University, and Translation and Localisation of Websites via an online platform.

In 2008 I set up the foundations of 'Translator in London'. Since day one I have been working with International and British clients.

The growth of Translator in London is the result of DISCIPLINE and LOVE for my profession, clients and colleagues.

I translated in ITN Studios, I interpreted on live television at 'This Morning Show' on ITV, I organised Academic Missions on Medical Education and Governance for Latin American Vice-Chancellors and representatives of British Universities and interpreted at the GMC [General Medical Council], Oxford University, the Royal College of General Practitioners, The University of Edinburgh, and Westminster University. I worked as an Interpreter during the launch of the Crossrail Project at Centre Point and Imperial College. I completed translations for major architectural projects in Latin America and for UK Embassies and Government Departments. I have been an examiner for the UK Ministry of Defence and a Language Tutor for FCO. I also interpreted for diplomats at World Education Forum and at World Travel Market.

In 2015, I was elected as a member of the Editorial Board of 'The Linguist' Journal, which I now chair, and, in 2017, I was elected as a Member of Council of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (re-elected in 2020).

For over five years, I have been sharing my knowledge and experience offering seminars for translators and interpreters to audiences of 200 - 300 people in Olympia, London, Glasgow Exhibition Centre, and the Business Design Centre during the Language Show. In 2019, I presented a TED-like talk at BP Translation Conference in Italy. I also presented webinars and talked at the first CIoL Conference at the BMS, in London.

Since 2011 I have been part of APARU, the Association of Argentine Professionals in the UK. APARU is a registered UK-Charity that raises funds for solidarity projects in Argentina.

I am involved in most aspects of the business and rely on the support of a small team of experienced and qualified colleagues to offer translation and interpreting services in different language combinations if required.

To offer the best possible personalised service I get to know each of my clients and their requests. Each of them gets my full attention and I care deeply about their needs.

IN A WORLD WHERE PEOPLE TALK ABOUT ALGORITHMS AND FOLLOWERS, I TALK ABOUT CARING ABOUT THE PEOPLE I SERVE.
